‘Data at the Speed of Light’
LightAge have special expertise in the provision of fibre optic cabling and hardware. Our installers have all been trained in the various techniques required for handling of this specialist media in all manner of environments.
All fibre optic projects are carried out by our own installers in accordance with British & European industry standards.
What is Fibre Optic Cabling?
Fibre optic cables consist of a number of solid fibre cores made from a transparent material such as glass, through which light can be transmitted end to end as if it were a pipe carrying a fluid.
Why use Fibre Optic Cabling?
Optical fibre will support the demand for data transmission at higher speeds and over greater distances than copper cables. Thus a single optical fibre cable may replace many copper cables:
- In Hazardous environments
- In Noisy Environments
- Where High Security is needed
Where to use Fibre Optic
Fibre is often used for links between buildings and links between communication centres within buildings as they can be routed through underground ducts and via overhead catenaries providing high speed communication.
